Best incense scents

Over the past few years while I have been exploring incense, I have often read about the importance of the method of making incense - that hand rolled is best, that traditional is best, that using dry ingredients (masala) is best, that using halmaddi is best, and that those using traditional hand rolled methods with a masala mix, and including halmaddi are artists, and that true connoisseurs should value this sort of artistic and skilled incense.

What I am personally discovering is that the incense I most enjoy is that which contains the scent ingredients I most like. While I prefer the freshness, softness, naturalness, and immediacy of dry ingredients over perfume solvents, I will still prefer a machine made perfume-dipped incense using some of my favourite scents like frankincense or myrrh, over a hand rolled masala incense using some of my least favourite scents (I incline away from the floral, especially rose). What I particularly like, and always prefer, is a masala incense of my favourite scents over a perfume-dipped incense of my favourite scents - but it is certainly the scents that drive my interest and enjoyment.

Incense that uses halmaddi is particularly enjoyed by incense enthusiasts in America, though my own taste inclines to the classic resins. I think there is a reason why frankincense, amber, and myrrh have been valued for thousands of years. I also love the classic woods - sandalwood in particular, certainly the most famous and widely used fragrant wood.  I am also particularly fond of other classic scents like patchouli  and musk. But I also love it when incense makers play around with modern scents, and produce something complex and fascinating - though mostly this is done with oils and solvents, which doesn't always work well when burned directly. Oils work well when they gently evaporate with warmth, but can become quite harsh when burnt.

    1. I've just had a look, and your incense sticks appear to be cheap and nasty. Why do you think folks here might want to buy from you?
